What is ADHD Coaching? Coaching is one of many resources people with ADHD use to live a healthy and fulfilled life. Coaching is not therapy and it’s not medication. Both of those fields are served by medical or mental health professionals. Coaching is based in positive psychology and focuses on strengths and successes to support people with ADHD in developing the skills in prioritization, time management, goal setting, organization and problem solving that they need to live the life they want. Coaching provides accountability to people with ADHD in carrying out the day to day tasks that build habits and skills for life.
From the CHADD website on coaching: A coach may help an adult with ADHD:
1. Maintain focus to achieve identified goals.
2. Translate abstract goals into concrete action.
3. Build motivation and learn to find ways to use concrete and abstract goals effectively.
As and ADHD coach I have extensive training in both coaching and ADHD. I coach adults as well as college students, teens and parents.
I offer a 30 minute complimentary consultation to see if your interests and my skills are a match. If we choose to move forward we start with creating a coaching agreement which outlines your goals for coaching. This becomes the backbone of our coaching sessions and we work to make progress towards those goals over time. For high school students I meet with the parents first, but then create the coaching agreement with the student. In coaching, it is very important that the client be in the driver’s seat because they are the ones that will do the work and reap the benefits of their hard work.
I offer 15 minute, 30 minute and 60 minute sessions. Generally, people start with 6-12 sessions to see if coaching is going to help them make progress on what they are looking to change in their lives. This significantly varies per client based on your specific goals but tends to be a good place to start. I am happy to create a coaching schedule and length that meets your needs.
Cost: I charge $60/hour of coaching which is prorated for shorter sessions. I always leave a few spaces for clients who are very interested in coaching but need a sliding scale for payment. Please contact me if you think coaching is a good fit for you regardless of your budget.
